I think that may be a subjective question of emphasis. Evolutionary psychologists are inclined to see similarities because their method includes the telling of unfalsifiable just-so stories to reduce culture to biology. The subjectivity is found in the choosing of that method.
Sure, every species has its superpower, so we're all the same in being animals that adapt to an environment by developing a superpowerful trait. But we're also all different because our superpower enables us to thrive in a different niche. And the human superpower is the protean brain which gives us all the superpowers. We can't run as fast as a cat, but we can easily beat a cat in a race by driving a car. The difference between people and animals shouldn't be minimized, however much we're surely abusing our godlike powers and disrupting the ecosystems.
