I think it's hard to say. Postmodernity could represent the decline of neoliberal civilization. What comes after the adult's jadedness? The inner peace of old age? Eventually the cynical person or institution might lose the will to live, and would have to be reborn or to die and make room for something else.
It's hard for me to be optimistic about the progressive prospects of American culture, especially when you see the authoritarian backlash in democracies all around the world. Who knows what will happen next, though? Maybe an authoritarian, Russian-Chinese sensibility will predominate, replacing America's self-destructive liberalism. Or maybe liberal modernity will somehow rebound.
