I think it's both. The Democrats and urbanites in general are emotionally mature, mentally healthy, and informed, compared to the Republicans and rural folks, but the Democrats are also too soft for politics. Ordinary people are also too soft to fight in wars, which is why soldiers need extensive training to overcome their civility. Politics is war by nonviolent means.
