I think I say something in the article about protecting the establishment of NT studies, but it's true that we could focus squarely on the issue of money.
Richard Carrier addressed this question in a recent YouTube video. He points out that Ehrman doesn't have a degree specifically in history, but in religious studies and theology. So Ehrman had the gall of slamming internet mythicists for having insufficient degrees, while he himself had the wrong degrees. Plus, Ehrman's wife is apparently a devout Christian, and that can certainly explain why Ehrman can't be seen to take mythicism seriously and why he always deals with it with maximum sarcasm.
