I think Gray would say that secular humanism invites utopian views of the future too, as in transhumanism.

But yes, if God doesn't exist, and we fail, we're on our own to go extinct. Then again, even if God exists, who's to say religions correctly interpret his plans and intentions? Or which religion should we trust? We're still on our own if God exists, to figure out what to do about God.
