I suspect you're right, which is why polls about who's a member of this or that religion are so shallow, especially in the US. Liberal American Christians are practically secular humanists, and being a "conservative Christian" is really a political rather than a religious affiliation.

Don't forget about the atheistic or at least skeptical implications of Ecclesiastes and Job.
