I suspect, though, that the more nature-friendly a society is, the less "cultured" we deem it. Primitive society is nature-friendly and therefore has only "low culture," compared to the high culture of modernity which is infamously anti-nature (in that we define progress in terms of the extent to which we've tamed the wilderness).
