I recently watched an interesting interview with an author who proposes that, to deal with the crisis of democracy, politicians should be chosen randomly by a lottery, like in a jury system. So we might all take a turn at the wheel.
Her book is called Open Democracy. I can't imagine her system ever being put in place in the US or in any other powerful modern democracy, but she makes a good case.
