Tribalism can be dangerous, though. Nazis worshipped the Volk, and indeed it's tempting especially for outsiders or losers (such as for Germans after WWI) to want to lose themselves in a group. Cults count on this instinctive desire to fit into a larger family.

I'm just wondering whether any large group can avoid corrupting itself in the familiar manner, via the law of oligarchy, the Dunning-Kruger effect, and so on.
