I hope you're right. I'm not trying to predict what will happen, though. Rather, I'm trying to explain why what already happened happened. Trump was elevated partly because of his symbolic power. Of course, his followers would give their conscious reasons for supporting him, most of which would be dumb. There's something Jungian going on here, in terms of how Trump reflects even his enemies' shadow side.
