I haven't studied it much, but Socrates is multiply attested by Plato, Xenophon, and Aristophanes. Aristotle and lots of other writers referred to Socrates after his death. That's enough to show that he existed, but it leaves us the problem of reconstructing who he was and of separating his ideas from those of the writers, since Socrates didn't write anything that we have.
