I haven't read much Teilhard de Chardin either, although I'm familiar with some of his science fictional theology. But that really would be a contrast because Pinker is excellent at hiding his petty snobbery. He seems to confine it to his tomes.

I think I read John Gray's criticism of Pinker's optimism. Gray's quite the pessimist, and he may even have inspired me to write my response to Pinker.
