I don't think the incentives are there to change much. The problem is that the bulk of the audience happen to be young, progressive, and enthusiastic clappers, and they prefer to read drivel. If anything, the incentive is to get rid of the marginalized, older crowd that wants to make Medium more substantive and intellectual.
