I don't say life needs to have an objective, cosmic meaning. What we need, rather, is a noble way to live in the absence of such meaning, or given the knowledge of life's absurdity. The creative life that picks up on nature's aesthetic dimension (its wild, hyper-creativity) is such a way to live. Creativity is a social purpose in the absence of a cosmic purpose. (It's tricky because "meaning" has multiple senses.)
