I don't know how novel what I'm saying is. I'm certainly not the first to have remarked on the cross symbolism.

I agree that Jesus stood for a spiritual revolution of love, rather than for a military assault on Rome. But the prospect of the former revolution is quite countercultural since it threatens the political establishment and indeed our very animal nature (our "original sin").
