I certainly don't deny that oscillation in the form of inconsistency or hypocrisy is possible, and indeed we should expect little more from right-wing populist groups. I just posted an article arguing that Trump is the epitome of postmodernism, so that would be relevant (first link below).

I've also written a lot on how conservatism is bound to be incoherent since it's anachronistic in being anti-modern. See the articles below for some examples.

I should also say that I'm not done looking at metamodernism. This article is indeed very general. I plan to look more closely at some metamodernist arguments.
