I can see the American political and economic systems collapsing by themselves before I could see Americans rising up to change their systems. Americans revolted in the past, of course, in the revolution and the ’60s counterculture, but we adapt to our environment, and the high-tech that’s out there has made for a very different caliber of citizen.
The Occupy Wall Street movement was a good example of the fragility, short attention spans, and self-entitlement that characterize the younger generations today. Americans are too polarized to agree on any systemic changes, and the entrenched powers won’t voluntarily give up their control.
I just hope that Trump’s mishandling of the coronavirus will at least put the last nail in his coffin.
