I can see how the appeal to substitute gods (including pop cultural idols) could be explained in that reductive fashion, with pop psychology. But my formulation of pantheism is largely ironic. The God in question, namely nature, is impersonal, so that's hardly going to satisfy such childish yearnings. That pop psychological explanation is also ad hominem.

I see pantheism as emerging from the upshot of naturalistic philosophy, as philosophers and scientists like Spinoza and Einstein saw.
