I believe Robert Anton Wilson called that sort of game "Chapel Perilous." It's the weird suspicion you can have that any paranormal worldview might secretly be correct. You stand on a knife's edge, caught between gestalt shifts and you start to realize that you could choose your worldview, like slipping on a different pair of shoes. Of course, we get attached to our worldview, as we would to our favourite shoes. But every once in a while, we can imagine what it would be like to be a completely different person or to think the world is much crazier than it seems.
