I agree with most of that. I say in the article that he's probably legally responsible for his actions. And I don't say we should stop criticizing narcissists and psychopaths. Rather, I say we should add a note to the end of such criticisms, as it were, noting that it's a shame the mental illness has gone untreated so that it's come to such a low point.

The point isn't that we should let monsters off the hook. Rather, we should worry that by demonizing such monsters, we're exacerbating the stigma of mental illness that more innocent victims of mental illness carry. It's not about helping Trump. It's about helping others with mental illness who could be treated as guilty by association with an egregious case like Trump's.
