I agree with all of that except perhaps with the second-last sentence. Indeed, that's my point, that as a science, psychiatry isn't as universal as it could or should be. More precisely, I doubt that psychiatrists could escape their philosophical and other cultural commitments since their issues are normative (health vs illness). But psychiatrists need to pretend otherwise to retain their scientific mystique and cachet.
