I agree there's more to say, although we should be wary of overarching conspiracy theories. Every event has numerous causes. We highlight some and ignore others, depending on our interests.

My articles on conservatism come close to a big explanation of why modern conservatives end up being authoritarian or promoting policies that solidify social dominance hierarchies. We should see through the euphemistic labels, "liberal" and "conservative," and reckon with the real split in modernity between humanists and animalists (reductive naturalists).

I've written other articles on big trends in history, about the perennial clashes between idealistic countercultures and mainstream, politically compromised cultures.

What's behind Trumpism, then, is nature's resort to the law of oligarchy, to the psychopathic authoritarians that established the civilized status quo and that would undo the anomaly of what humanists think of as the progress of absolute (science-centered) modernity.
