I agree that there's that important difference. The cults in question are cultural rather than narrowly political. The two parties were united by centrist neoliberalism until Trump cashed in on the populist resentment brewing on both sides of the so-called spectrum. Therefore, his cult captured the Republican Party, whereas Bernie Sanders failed to do so for the Democrats. Currently, then, Wokeness has no political leader. But's it's still a cultural force to be reckoned with.
