I agree that there are enightened, constructive scientists. But that's a different question from the one I raise about science as a whole. The question here is whether capitalism indeed has captured science (just as it's capturing many arts departments). In that case, while individual scientists may aim to do good, their discipline as a whole would be directed towards capitalistic (Faustian, consumerist, technologically progressive) ends.
But I wouldn't say even that science is wholly captured in that way, since there's a transhumanist possibility.
