I agree that there are different sides of Christianity, and that Protestantism itself wasn't so progressive. Did I say otherwise here? I meant to say that Protestant individualism looks like a way in which the Church tried to compromise with the neo-pagan forces that were coming to a head in the Renaissance. Protestantism was Christianity's early form of individualism that tried to head off modernity at the pass, as it were.
