I agree that theism is preposterous in comparison with modern knowledge of nature. I've argued as much elsewhere. But part of that preposterous is theism's incoherence, which is what I'm arguing here.

Also, to be clear, I think the problem of evil isn't so strong on logical grounds, but it's powerful on psychological ones. The argument from evil forces the theist to admit that God isn't so like a human parent after all, which makes exoteric theistic religions much less appealing. In other words, this argument exposes a bait-and-switch tactic: attract newcomers with a rosy view of God (as a father with a son, etc), then hit them with the esoteric reality that God may be monstrous (creating hellfire, etc).
