I agree that plenty of intellectuals are hypocrites, including the "woke" social justice warriors. When I said that the charge of hypocrisy is "neither here nor there," I didn't mean there's no such hypocrisy. I just don't think it's relevant to my point that unless we elevate our perspective, we're unlikely to change things for the better or save our species from disaster. The technocratic myopia in which everyone keeps their nose to the grindstone and stays in their lane seems like part of the problem rather than the solution. As hypocritical as intellectuals may be, I think an intellectual mindset is a necessary condition of social progress.
