I agree that Perry's CNN article is hardly the height of wokeness. It's meant to be accommodating. But the thesis and viewpoint that emerge are still annoyingly woke, by my light, especially since the author is old enough to know better.

I don't think the essence of wokeness is an attempt to block communication. That kind of cowardice is common on the far right too, and it's more a matter of sophistry and partisanship in general. I analyze wokeness more fully in other articles, linked below. I think what distinguishes it is hyper-femininity, in parallel with how hyper-masculinity distinguishes right-wing extremism. Also, wokeness falls more directly out of postmodern philosophies, such as Foucault's, and out of the self-centeredness that's fostered by consumerism.

In any case, I do see the lack of communication and the cowardice in Perry's article since he's justifying his lame decision not to see the movie on such trivial grounds. He's cancelling the movie for himself, and he's virtue-signaling with the article, which is a partisan act.
