I agree that our brains are highly flexible, but you're strawmanning the evolutionary point. I'd posit an internal divide in us, one that acknowledges the functionality of certain heuristics in the context of hunter-gatherer life in prehistory, and our potential for transcending that context, such as with the ability to imagine and build artificial environments. Obviously, both are present in our history. For instance, Trumpian tribalism is a throwback to prehistoric reflexes that made much more sense when we weren't living in such close quarters with such enormous populations.
