I agree that atheists needn't insist on the asymmetry of the burden of proof. I say so in my article, that atheists have nothing to fear in taking on the burden of exposing archaic religious balderdash. But I also lay out a reason why atheists should insist on the relevant epistemic principles, to call attention to unspiritual Christian distortions of philosophy for the "Christian's" politicized purposes.

Of course skeptics make claims. It's just that humility is built into the culture of secular humanism. Humility is also built into authentic Christianity, but that's not the kind that historically prevailed in the West.

Skeptics say we should trust but verify. Christian dogmatists use politics and pressure tactics to con people into mistaking their crass literalism for genuine spirituality.
