I agree that as a matter of historical fact, Christian dogmas have been useful fictions, especially in managing the breakdown of the Pax Romana, and preserving some social order in Europe through the Middle Ages. Whether those fictions are still needed in the modern period is doubtful, especially because of the drawbacks of Christian exotericism, which I talk about in my article on how Christianity betrayed the Axial Age’s spiritual revolutions.
