I agree. And it's amazing how much meaning a fiction can have. I think that's so because we suspect that the universe's development is itself the unfolding of a kind of story, or at least of a colossal artwork. There's no author of the cosmic story, but the universe develops itself, and we're the only apparent audience. This is why stories resonate, because even if there's no intelligent designer, the universe is certainly a most creative place.
