Hypocrisy is indeed rampant, largely because the self is modular and thus divided against itself. This makes it all too easy for us to fool ourselves. One hand might not know what the other is doing, or it might look the other way, as it were, so it doesn't notice. This hypocrisy transfers to the collective level.
