Early Christianity distinguished itself with the political implications of its spirituality, that is, with its emphasis on agape, charitable love of the lower classes, the marginalized, oppressed, poor, and ill. That kind of spirituality was political in the elitist ancient world. Hence, there's no confusion, oversight, or contradiction here between spirituality and politics.
