I have an old habit of writing "her" instead of "him" sometimes not because of political correctness, which I despise, but to remind myself of our animal brutality which drove most societies to be patriarchal.

Plus, what's wrong with evening things up just a little? Why not include women in the discourse? Writing "him and her" all the time gets awkward and tedious.
