Good point about the political problem with acquiring the data, but my other articles in this series point to some established data (and see the top link below). Still, I'm a big-picture guy. And at some point, the global maps of free countries and war zones speak for themselves (since they overlap pretty neatly with climate zones), or at least they demand an explanation.
