God's keeping us from killing ourselves? How, by making us people with rational capacities and ambitions that are potentially self-destructive? Or does the myth extend to the demonization of our nature? I don't think it's productive to posit God as having a role in history. We're threatening to destroy ourselves, and we're also the ones holding us back from doing so.
