I might steer clear of a proselytizing Christian on the street, although I've talked to some in the past. Writing's a different thing, though; it's a purer form of communication since there's no nonverbal sidetracking or social pressure in the background, which can be exploited in person-to-person dialogue. The strength of ideas can be clearer when written on the page, contrary to Plato.
Mind you, in-person dialogues can be revealing too, since nonverbal communication can indicate what's going on at an emotional, unconscious level.
