Except that American commerce isn't free of governmental control. Lobbyists add loopholes to benefit certain sectors and monopolies. Most American industries are oligopolies, and there's a revolving door between the public and private sectors, making the country increasingly plutocratic.
But I agree that governmental regulation isn't a panacea. Governments can err, just as markets can. Indeed, capitalist economies would destroy themselves with no governmental correction for their excesses.
