Even if nature drives us to try to survive, so that metaphorically it "cares" about us, nature replaces all species with successors. And at the individual level, nature doesn't care about the members of species since it throws obstacles at them, and only the strong or fit overcome them. We care about our members' survival, which is why we build artificial refuges from nature's indiscriminate wildness, refuges that provide social safety nets, for instance.
But yes, there are subtle distinctions that could be made there.
