Egoism might be concentrated in Western, American-led cultures. But the broader problem is the anthropocentric aspect of humanism. Technoscientific, secular liberal progress is about improving things not just for the present generation but for future people. The narrowmindedness consists in our view that humanity is special and has rights that other animals don't. This view of the anomalousness of personhood is in conflict with the kind of naturalism that says every species should stay in its lane in the evolutionary cycle. As humanistic people, we think we've broken free of that servitude. There is a conflict here between naturalness and artificiality, and it's what I highlight in some of my writings.
