Debra, you seem to be coming at this from a Christian perspective. My article focusses on monism, which is more prevalent in the Eastern religions and in certain Western mystical religions and philosophies.
There is a version that pops up, though, even in the New Testament and in Augustine, in Paul’s suggestion that we’re clay made by the potter with a predetermined destiny, so our freewill is an illusion. (This comes from Isaiah.) So again, why love the mere pottery when you can love the potter?
