Cosmology can be done in theoretical physics, and "causation" is a concept that belongs in the philosophy of science.

Metaphysics is a story philosophers tell to make sense of scientific discoveries. It's our biggest, most general secular story that's meant to cohere with all that's known. The cosmological argument may get into metaphysical questions, but there are lots of problems with that argument which aren't so dignified.
