Corporate culture may indeed be especially sociopathic, but the point is that machines can't presently feel anything. Thus, the computers and machines that dominate our environments are comparable to sociopaths who lack the capacity for complex emotions.
All words have multiple meanings and no writer can account for all of them. We use words in certain limited ways and the meaning should be clear from the context, assuming we're writing well.
My use of "adult" in this article is meant to distinguish between children and babies that are supposed to be infantile, and the adults that are likewise infantile in some ways but that shouldn't be so.
I don't have time to do a drawing for each of my articles, but I agree that the photo I use here isn't ideal. I chose that photo because the closeness of the two faces might suggest not just an emotional bond, but a commonality between the adult and baby. The intended meaning is kind of abstract.
