Conservatives sell their criticisms as prudent applications of the proverbial brake pedal on runaway modern progress. But what I’m saying in this series is that conservatism is effectively a reaction not just against liberalism but against modern humanism. The hypocrisies are therefore plentiful since conservatism promotes policies that would effectively preserve modern comforts and liberties for the minority (the “one percent” in the plutocracy, monopoly, monarchy, or dictatorship) while keeping the majority in neofeudal servitude.
The point of modern progress was to recognize the human rights of everyone. Those rights are what conservatism effectively denies, even as conservatism is typically propagated by elites who enjoy the fruits of modern progress.
