Clearly, a Muslim will be inclined to look on the bright side and read the Quran differently from a nonbeliever. But can you put yourself in the nonbeliever’s shoes and imagine how the Quran comes across to that reader? It’s hardly an inviting text.

Plus, I’m not sure what to think of “love” that’s coupled with so much contempt. If you love one person, that shouldn’t mean you hate everyone else by comparison. God’s love of “the believers” seems impossible without his contempt for non-Muslims which lands them in Hell. That doesn’t seem like love at all.
