Certainly we all compromise in that we rarely get exactly what we want. We don't live in paradise, but that's different from speaking of a principle or ethic of compromise, of making compromise a way of life. I've characterized that as a bureaucratic or political mindset, and you seem to appreciate the pitfalls of going too far with compromise. But yes, not all cases of compromise are amoral. It's just that it's hard to know when to stop compromising, which is why idealists often end up becoming Machiavellian realists. As it says in the Batman movie, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
