Certainly, there would be no life without the Sun. But that doesn't mean the Sun approves of life and systematically works to benefit us. Life evolved to take advantage of the Sun, so none of this was intelligently designed, which means there can be drawbacks to our reliance on the Sun. Some parts of the planet might be too hot for certain kinds of life. Accidents can happen because the arrangement is entirely natural.
