But that's just bluster. The main argument here is simple: science shows that nature is wild. In so far as the qualities of a product indicate the nature of its source, God must be as wild or indiscriminate as the wilderness he created. The best explanation of the sappy conception of God as being identical with "love" is that we vainly personify the unknown or see ourselves in alien, inhuman patterns--all of which is ironic in view of that passage from the Pauline epistle.

Again, are you supposed to have a good reason for thinking God is love?
