But that's a leap of logic. I'm not justifying "genocide" or anything like that. It's just a fact, though, that unlike civilized militaries, Hamas purposely hides among the civilian population, taking them hostage or using them as shields. Just because someone's being used as a shield, doesn't mean the person transforms physically into just a shield and loses all his or her human properties.
